Venice changes after dark

When the day-trippers leave and the streets grow quieter, Venice reveals a different side of itself.

Join me for an evening walk through illuminated landmarks, quiet campos, narrow alleys and canals where the atmosphere changes completely after sunset. Along the way, we’ll mix Venetian history with legends, unusual stories and glimpses of everyday life in the city.

This is not a checklist of monuments. The route is designed to combine some of Venice’s most beautiful sights with quieter corners you might easily miss during the day — and to enjoy the city at a slower pace, when walking through Venice becomes part of the experience itself.

Two routes through Venice at night

The small-group tour follows one of two routes depending on the starting time.

19:30 – From Hidden Venice to St Mark’s

Starting at Campo dei Gesuiti, we walk through the quieter streets of Cannaregio and Castello, gradually approaching the monumental heart of Venice. The tour ends around St Mark’s Square, when the daytime crowds have thinned and the city’s most famous landmarks take on a completely different atmosphere.

21:30 – From St Mark’s to Rialto

Starting near St Mark’s Square, we leave the illuminated monuments behind and make our way through quieter streets, hidden corners and atmospheric canals toward Rialto. As the evening gets later, Venice becomes increasingly peaceful.

Prefer a tour just for you? A private Venice by Night tour can be adapted to your interests, your dinner plans and where you are staying. We can focus more on hidden Venice, legends and mysteries, history, famous landmarks, or simply enjoy a relaxed evening walk through some of my favorite parts of the city.

I can meet you at your hotel or restaurant in central Venice and, whenever possible, finish the tour somewhere convenient for the rest of your evening.

Venice is beautiful at any time of day. But after dark, when the streets become quieter and reflections fill the canals, it is a city worth discovering all over again.

Venice by Night is about the journey as much as the individual stops. Depending on your starting time, we follow one of two routes through the city, combining famous landmarks with quieter streets, hidden corners and stories along the way.

Campo dei Gesuiti & Hidden Cannaregio

On the 19:30 tour, we begin in one of the quieter parts of Cannaregio and gradually make our way toward the heart of Venice.

Discover atmospheric canals, secluded campos and corners of the city that feel completely different once the daytime crowds have gone.

Castello: Stories, Legends & Local Life

Moving through Castello, we encounter monumental Venice alongside a more intimate, lived-in city.

Along the way, expect stories of Venetian history, unusual characters, legends and mysteries connected with the places around us.

Campo Santi Giovanni e Paolo

One of Venice’s most impressive squares takes on a different character after dark.

Here, grand architecture, local life and centuries of Venetian history come together — without turning the evening into an art-history lecture.

Hidden Alleys & Canals

Some of the best moments of a night walk in Venice happen between the famous sights.

Narrow alleys, reflections on the water, small bridges and unexpected views are part of the route as we move through the city at a relaxed pace.

St Mark’s Square After Dark

For the 19:30 route, St Mark’s is our grand finale.

See Venice’s most famous square when the atmosphere has changed, the daytime crowds have thinned and its illuminated architecture can be enjoyed at a slower pace.

From St Mark’s to Rialto

The 21:30 tour follows the journey in the opposite direction.

Starting near St Mark’s, we gradually leave the monumental center behind and enter quieter streets and canals, ending around the Rialto area as Venice settles into the night.

Private Venice by Night

Private tours do not need to follow either standard route.

Depending on where you are staying, where you have dinner and what interests you most, we can create a route around hidden Venice, legends and mysteries, history, famous landmarks or a combination of them.

The small-group Venice by Night tour is available in English and German.

Private tours are available in English, German, Italian and Spanish and are exclusively for your party.

The tour takes place outdoors and runs in most weather conditions. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

The exact route may vary depending on the starting time, local conditions and, for private tours, your interests and preferred meeting point.

We aim to make this experience as inclusive and accessible as possible.

The standard small-group routes include several bridges and are therefore not wheelchair accessible.

A wheelchair-friendly private Venice by Night tour can be arranged using an alternative route and, when helpful, Venice’s accessible public transportation network.

The shared small-group tour is available in English and German.
Private tours in Italian or Spanish can be arranged on request.

2. How long does the tour last?
The standard tour lasts 1.5 hours.
Private tours can be customized with extra stops. Contact me to tailor your experience.

3. Where is the meeting point?
7:30 pm tour: Campo dei Gesuiti, at COMBO, in the internal courtyard near the well.
9:30 pm tour: Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II, Riva degli Schiavoni, in front of Londra Hotel Palace.
For private tours, personalized pick-up at your hotel or any central location in Venice can be arranged.

4. Can the tour be customized?
Yes! Private tours are fully customizable. Let me know your interests—whether history, secret spots, or photography—and I’ll design your route.

5. Is it safe to walk Venice at night?
Absolutely! Venice is very safe at night. The streets are well-lit, and locals often stroll late. Enjoy the city’s peaceful and magical atmosphere.

6. Can I be dropped off at my hotel or meet at a restaurant after dinner?
For private tours: Yes, hotel drop-off or meeting at a restaurant is possible—just ask in advance.
For group tours: No drop-off included, but I’ll provide directions for returning on foot or by public transport.

7. Does the tour include visits inside buildings?
The tour focuses on outdoor sites, as many buildings close at night. We will explore facades, hidden courtyards, and share their stories.

8. Is this tour suitable for first-time visitors?
Yes! Perfect for first-timers and returning visitors looking for a unique nighttime perspective without crowds.

9. Is the tour wheelchair accessible?
The group tour is not wheelchair accessible due to bridges and narrow streets.
Wheelchair-accessible private tours can be arranged on request.

10. How much walking is involved?
Expect moderate walking on mostly flat terrain with some bridges and cobblestones. Wear comfortable shoes.

11. What if it rains?
The tour runs rain or shine. In severe weather, I’ll contact you to discuss adjustments. Dress accordingly.

12. What is the cancellation policy?
Full refund if cancelled at least 24 hours before.
No refunds for late cancellations or no-shows.
Full refund or credit if cancelled due to extreme weather or unforeseen events.

13. Can I book additional tours or experiences?
Absolutely! Many guests combine this night tour with other experiences such as food tours, private boat rides, or visits to Murano.
