Description

Embark on an exclusive journey through Venice’s hidden gardens, revealing lush sanctuaries tucked behind historic walls.

While Venice is famed for its canals and architecture, it also hides over 500 secret gardens—more than its famous bridges. This tour invites you to wander these peaceful green retreats, often concealed behind magnificent palazzos.

You’ll visit a serene 16th-century convent garden with sweeping views over the northern lagoon, explore the exquisite English-style garden of a private five-star hotel, and stroll through a public garden nestled in the heart of Cannaregio, once part of grand 18th-century estates.

The journey concludes in a mystical garden maintained by a Carmelite monastery, offering a rare glimpse into Venice’s tranquil and secret side.

Join me to breathe in fragrant blooms and experience Venice like never before—quiet, green, and deeply enchanting.

Itinerary

Garden in a Nuns’ Community
We begin the tour in a peaceful and charming garden belonging to a community of nuns. This space also serves as a retirement home for elderly women and offers a rare opportunity to step into a serene, hidden corner of Venice. With fruit trees, flowering pergolas, and mystical plants, the garden boasts breathtaking views over the northern lagoon. In Renaissance times, it was a meeting place for intellectuals and writers.

English Garden of a Historic Luxury Hotel
We then visit a beautifully landscaped garden that today belongs to a prestigious five-star hotel. Originally a botanical garden, it was transformed in the 19th century into a refined English-style garden with winding paths, an icehouse, scenic viewpoints, and romantic follies.

Off-the-Beaten-Path Walk through Cannaregio
We wander through Cannaregio — Venice’s largest and most authentic district — exploring quiet backstreets, gardens, and hidden courtyards far from the tourist trails. Our route passes the splendid Gothic façade of the Church of Madonna dell’Orto and continues to the lively Fondamenta degli Ormesini, where locals gather each late afternoon for the quintessential Venetian aperitivo.

Public Garden with a Noble Past
This green oasis, now a public park, was once the private garden of noble Venetian families whose palazzi surrounded it. Today it offers a tranquil pause near the train station, often overlooked by visitors.

Mystical Garden of the Discalced Carmelites
We end in a contemplative garden maintained by a community of Discalced Carmelite nuns. Redesigned by contemporary architects, it draws inspiration from the mystical writings of Saint Teresa of Ávila — a quiet space that invites reflection and spiritual calm.
